In 2005, DLA Piper became one of the largest business law firms in the world through a merger of unprecedented scope. The strategy was simple – to create a truly global firm capable of handling the most important legal needs of clients wherever they do business. Our timeline tells our story.
At DLA Piper, you work on challenging global matters and enjoy a level of teamwork not available at many other firms. In the US, our strategic teams are based in distinctive offices across the country. Click on the cities below to learn about each one.
We are committed to contributing to the well-being of the communities where we live and work and to the global community. Our pro bono program, both locally and worldwide, is innovative and effective, and everyone plays a role in it.
Every day around the world, DLA Piper professionals are working pro bono to ensure access to justice, promote the rule of law and provide legal services to those unable to afford a lawyer. All our people are encouraged to take part in our signature pro bono projects, which focus tremendous resources – both human and financial – on an array of target areas and key organizations. Lawyers and staff also work together on projects through New Perimeter, our nonprofit, which provides pro bono legal assistance in under-served regions around the world to support access to justice, social and economic development and sound legal institutions.
We are also working to protect our planet and provide better opportunities for people around the world by striving to be a leader in environmental sustainability. Our strategic approach to the environment is embedded across our firm through our Global Sustainability Initiative, which is the tool we use to determine priorities and monitor progress. Indeed, every employee who joins the firm receives training on our environmental approach.
DLA Piper approaches diversity differently than others in the legal industry. Diversity and inclusion are integral to the firm's core values, and its efforts on these fronts are motivated by the fundamental belief that not only does diversity make good business sense, it is also the right thing to do. The firm acknowledges that a strategic approach led from the top and integrated into day-to-day business operations and management metrics is necessary to achieve measureable and sustainable results.

DLA Piper has proudly partnered with Diversity Lab to pilot the Mansfield Rule, an initiative through which participating firms will consider at least 30 percent women and attorneys of color in the candidate pools for leadership and governance roles, equity partner promotions and lateral positions.
